SMW Racing set for the first WorldSSP 300 round at Aragón with Iglesias and Millan

WSSP300 | Aragon Test| 6th April 2022

Iglesias and Millan keen to start the season at Motorland Aragón. The Italian-Polish squad aims high with the Spanish pairing in a WorldSBK category brimming with talent

The SMW team is ready to officially start up its engines for the opening round of the 2022 WorldSSP 300, set to take place this weekend at the Motorland Aragón circuit. Spanish riders Iglesias and Millan are tasked with ensuring the Italian-Polish team plays a starring role in the WorldSBK entry-level category. The two team-mates have already shown real promise with SMW Racing’s Kawasaki Ninja 400 bikes during testing, a sign that the team looks to have excellent potential. After four sessions of free practice Iglesias was P13 overall (2:07.772) while Millan concluded in P25 in the combined timetable (2:08.592). 2022 marks Inigo Iglesias’ second year with the Italian squad, while Alex Millan has a first opportunity to demonstrate both his feeling with the team and the work that has been completed during the pre-season. The riders are in for a battle right from race one, considering the 30-strong field and the double race format, with one race scheduled for Saturday and the second on Sunday. The action gets underway on Friday 8 April, with the first free practice session at 9.45 am. Then it’s time for Superpole, which will play out on Saturday 9 April at the same time, before the lights go out on the first race of the season at 12.40 pm. On Sunday, the WorldSSP300 category will round out the WorldSBK weekend at Aragón with its second race, set to start at 3.15 pm.

Inigo Iglesias, #48

«I think that the first race of the season serves as a point of reference for everyone. As this is my second year with the team, I want to be straight up amongst the frontrunners at Aragón of course. The tests have helped in that sense, providing us with indications so we can be as ready, as competitive and as fast as possible already in Friday’s sessions. I hope for a strong start to the season!».

Alex Millan, #14

«I can’t wait to get out on track for my first race with SMW Racing. I hope the Aragón races will be both hard-fought and fun. We’ll need to work hard to have a good setting and good feeling so that we can be quick over the weekend; I’d like to be straight up near the front. I like Aragón, it’s a tough track but we’ve raced here for years and I’m confident I can do well. I’m hoping for a really good weekend».

Otello Celia, Chief Marketing

«We’ve very pleased with both riders. The tests have gone very well despite the cold, and we hope to be centre stage during the weekend’s races».
