SMW Racing seeking a comeback at Magny-Cours with Iglesias and Millan

WorldSSP300 | Pirelli French Round | Thursday 8 September 2022

The Italian-Polish team returns after the summer break with even more grit and determination as it chases victory with Iglesias and Millan

A little over a month since the last round at Most, in the Czech Republic, the SMW Racing team is gearing up for the final part of the season. The Italian-Polish squad will be on track at Magny-Cours with its Kawasaki Ninja 400 bikes from 9 to 11 September, during the Pirelli French Round, determined to make up for recent unfortunate performance. Having focused on their athletic preparation throughout the summer break, the SMW Racing team’s two Spanish riders are both on the hunt for their first victory of the season. Inigo Iglesias is now working with the same trainer as Iker Lecuona, WorldSBK rider and winner of the 2022 Suzuka 8 Hours, to perfect his preparation ready for the technical and tricky French track. Last year, #58 qualified fifth in Superpole before rounding out the weekend with a sixth- and an eighth-place finish in the two races. His team-mate Alex Millan also arrives in France eager to make up for what was a double DNF in the Czech Republic.

The Pirelli French Round is set to get underway on Friday 9 September with free practice at 9.45 am (CET). The Superpole will run on Saturday 10 at the same time, before the first race begins at 12.40 pm (CET). Sunday will see race 2 play out at 3.15 pm (CET).

Inigo Iglesias, #58

«Magny-Cours is a beautiful track but it’s also an extremely difficult one. I have positive memories of my last race here. This year, the goal is to improve on last year’s results and I’m confident we can do that. I’ve been working with a different trainer this summer and I’ve already started to see the results. It will be important not to make any mistakes this weekend; we’re all 100% determined».

Alex Milan, #14

«I’m really happy to be at Magny-Cours. I think it’s a track that’s tricky to interpret and very technical. I’ve worked hard this summer to be as prepared as possible and with every day that passes, I feel like I’m getting closer to the fitness level I had before the Aragón crash and surgery».
