SMW Racing gears up for the home round of Iglesias and Millan

WSSP300 | Catalunya Round | Wednesday 21 September 2022

The Italian-Polish team will head out on track at Barcelona with two particularly motivated Spanish riders

The Catalunya round is already here, and riders Inigo Iglesias and Alex Millan are particularly keen to do well in front of their home crowd. The Italian-Polish team will be on track at the Circuit de Catalunya this weekend (23-25 September) for the penultimate round of the season. Strengthened by their previous experiences of the Barcelona-based track and motivated at the prospect of a home round, Iglesias and Millan are eager to express both their talent and the potential of the technical package offered by their SMW Racing Kawasaki Ninja 400 bikes. The aim is to start the weekend strong and strive for the podium come race day. Both riders are seeking redemption after a challenging Magny-Cours round and want to round out the 2022 season on a high. For Iglesias, this will also be an opportunity to consolidate the excellent results he scored at the Spanish track last year, when he secured pole position in qualifying (1’55.451s).

The Catalunya round will get underway on Friday 23 September, with free practice commencing at 09:45 (CET). Superpole will take place at the same time on Saturday, before the weekend’s first race gets underway at 12:40 (CET). Race two will run on Sunday at 15:15 (CET).

INIGO IGLESIAS, #58

«I can’t wait to get out on track at Barcelona. It’s my home race and I’m really ‘hungry’. Barcelona is one of my favourite tracks, so I’m sure we can put in a good performance in front of my home crowd. We need to work hard right from the start to find the right setup and be ready for Saturday’s qualifying and race 1. We missed a great opportunity to shine in France and I won’t make the same mistakes this time. I’ll try to fight for the win right from the start and do my best to achieve our goal. I’m highly motivated and focused heading into this weekend.»

ALEX MILLAN, #14

«I’m really pleased we’re racing in Barcelona, the city where I was born – it couldn’t be more of a home round! It will also be my team-mate’s home round and I’m sure we’ll work together as a team. I want to thank my whole team for their hard work this year and plan to make the most of these last two races, working hard to achieve some good results. I’m highly motivated, not least because I want to make up for a difficult French round. I know I can do better here! My family and friends will be here and that gives me added motivation – we’re hoping for a great weekend!»
