SMW Racing aims for success with Iglesias and welcomes back Millan at Estoril

WSSP300 | Estoril Round | Thursday 19 May 2022

The Italian-Polish team welcomes Millan back to the fold, after he was forced to miss Assen due to injury, and aims high with Iglesias

SMW Racing is more battle-ready than ever as it gears up for the Estoril Round. Keen to make up for the unfortunate Dutch round, that saw rider Inigo Iglesias once again up among the frontrunners, the Italian-Polish team is ready to aim for its first win of the season. And the team is even more motivated as it also welcomes back Alex Millan, who was forced to miss the Assen round after sustaining injury at Aragón. The squad is therefore back to its official line-up. Inigo Iglesias arrives in Portugal as one of the category’s strongest riders, having scored two front row starts and just missing out on a podium at Aragón. Iglesias has good memories of Portugal in fact, as, in 2021, the young Spaniard set the second fastest time overall and reached the third step of the rostrum at the Portimão circuit, a feat he will now try to repeat at EstorilAlex Millan will meanwhile work to regain confidence with the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and the automatisms of a race weekend. This is the Barcelona native’s first full season in WorldSSP300, a gateway category to WorldSSP and WorldSBK. With the team’s support, the young talent is likely to make a rapid return to his previous form.

The Estoril round will get underway on Friday with the first free practice kicking off at 10:45 (CET). Saturday 21 May will bring the Superpole at 10:45 (CET) and Race 1 at 13:40 (CET). On Sunday, warm-up will run at 10:50 (CET), followed by the second of the weekend’s races at 16:15 (CET).

Otello Celia, Chief Marketing Officer

«We arrive at Estoril still a little disappointed about the Assen round. We’re a competitive team, made up of ambitious, enthusiastic people who understand the technical quality we have achieved with the bike. The fact we’ve been consistent frontrunners in the Superpole shows that our efforts are already bearing fruit. And so now we expect to be competitive again. Millan is returning after a serious injury sustained at Aragón and Iglesias wants another solid performance, like that of Aragón, after the Dutch interlude. We always do our best to give our riders all the technical and human support they need to be able to compete at the highest level and prove that this is, and will continue to be, their calling».
