An unlucky WorldSSP300 round for SMW Racing at Most

WSSP300 | Prosecco DOC Czech Round | Monday 1 August 2022

A disappointing round for the Italian-Polish team in the Czech Republic. Iglesias suffered a nasty crash on Friday and was declared unfit, Millan retired from both races

The Prosecco DOC Czech Round concluded without so much as one point for the SMW Racing team. On Friday, at the circuit of Most, Inigo Iglesias suffered a nasty highside that ruled him out of the rest of the weekend, a blow to the head causing the doctors to declare him ‘unfit’. Alex Millan was immediately quick right from his first exits around the Most track and was even able to score a front row start on Saturday with a time of 1’49.125. Despite achieving his best result of the season in qualifying, Millan was unable to exploit this opportunity to do equally well in the races. The young rider crashed out of race 1, before a puncture resulting from contact with another rider forced him to retire from race 2.

The team will return to the track for the Pirelli French Round, scheduled to take place from 9-11 September at the Magny-Cours circuit.

INIGO IGLESIAS, #58 (unfit)

“I don’t have a lot to say about the weekend. We were working well in practice when I crashed in trying to avoid a rider who had practically stopped in the middle of the track. I suffered a slight concussion in the fall, and this meant that the doctors ruled me unfit for the rest of the weekend. Further medical checks have ruled out any other problems, so I’m good and will be ready for the next races”.

ALEX MILLAN, #14 (race 1: DNF | race 2: DNF)

“The weekend was going very well until Saturday, when I scored my best ever qualifying result. But unfortunately, we were unable to achieve the results we wanted on race day. In race 1, I was battling for first but made a mistake and crashed. Then in race 2, I made a good start and was even leading but after the red flag I couldn’t match my previous performance and when I made contact with another rider, I realized that there was a problem with the front tyre and I had to retire”.
